Lori and Keith from Lori Anderson Photographers share this Southern-inspired Huntington Beach wedding. Don’t miss the cute pinwheel action!
• Bride & Groom: Cate & Ian
• Wedding date: July 8, 2011
• Location: Newland Barn in Huntington Beach (ceremony and reception)
All The Details
Is that a pinwheel or a wind turbine? The bride made great use of handmade pinwheels throughout the venue (her dad helped assemble), although the wind picked up a bit and blew some of them asunder. They added a splash of color and fun. Other cool details included a fat jug of lemonade, sweet tea (it was a bit of a southern-themed wedding), and a “groom’s cake” which was a rather tasty-looking stack of glazed donuts. Yum! Speaking of sweet things, Cate carried on a sweet gesture that’s become a bit of a tradition: a handkerchief once owned by her grandfather, embroidered with her wedding date and that of several of “Grampa’s Girls,” was wrapped around her wedding bouquet.
Did you want fries with that?: Brides have lots of options when it comes to planning a wedding, but why not go with a southern California tradition? In-N-Out catered Cate & Ian’s Newland Barn wedding with its rolling food truck. Guests enjoyed burgers, chips and a bevy of fountain drinks. Alas, no fries are ever served on these trucks. We’ve seen In-N-Out at several weddings and it’s always been a major hit with the guests.
Tips from the pros: This is an outdoor venue with no natural lighting, so spring for the bistro lights – the facility has a vendor who handles this – and that will really make a difference in the amount of ambient light as well as create a more special atmosphere. Also, there is a gazebo that has “wedding” written all over it, but we’ve shot a couple weddings at this location and we think the water tower is cooler, so consider that as the central point for your reception!
